Phineas Newborn Jr. on piano, Pau Chambers on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums. Originally released in 1959, We Three showcases Haynes front and center, his instantly recognizable rhythmic approach, aided by crisp, rapid fills and steadfast hi-hat, leading Newborn’s gentle, toned-down (unusual for the often flashy, Art Tatum-Oscar Peterson school pianist) style & Chambers’ exceptional support. Check out “After Hours” where the trio barkes off into different time signatures, or the elegant opener “Reflection.”
